Who runs the .net registry, and from which country?

IANA lists VeriSign Global Registry Services, 12061 Bluemont Way, Reston, Virginia, as both manager and technical operator of .net. The RDAP service answers at rdap.verisign.com/net/v1/, and the WHOIS host is whois.verisign-grs.com, the one used for .com. .net was one of the original generic extensions. Today it is a gTLD like any other in ICANN's system: Verisign operates it under a contract with ICANN and under United States law as a Virginia-based company. The IANA record was last updated on 10 March 2026, the same day as the .com record.

Can a court in the United States take down or seize a .net domain?

For a .net name, the registry country is the United States, and the statute that matters most is the Anticybersquatting Consumer Protection Act. Its in rem clause lets a mark owner sue the domain where the registry sits, when the registrant cannot be reached in person. Reston is in Virginia, so that forum exists for every .net domain. The court may order forfeiture, cancellation or transfer. Our Panamanian procedure governs what PanamaRegistrar does. It has no effect on an order that Verisign receives directly.

What does PanamaRegistrar do with a complaint about a .net domain?

Nothing happens to a .net domain on a complaint alone. Copyright, defamation, political or competitor complaints need a decision from a Panamanian court; a foreign judgment must first be recognised in Panama by exequatur. Phishing, malware, botnets and fraud that takes money from victims are suspended within 24 hours of a well-documented report, child sexual abuse material immediately, and the URLs are reported to NCMEC. You are told before any action on your domain, unless the law or the court order forbids it; with Domain protection, every complaint is also read by a person before any action on the domain. This rule covers what PanamaRegistrar does, not the registry or our registrar partner. Steps and time limits: takedown procedure and how we handle complaints.

Who uses .net domains, and why?

The dataset lists .net for networks, infrastructure and technical services, and as the usual fallback when the .com is taken. Hosting companies, CDNs and internal service domains often sit on .net. Registration is open to anyone for 1 to 10 years. Because .net shares Verisign's systems with .com, choosing it instead of .com changes the brand but not the jurisdiction: both records are held in Virginia.

Which registry rules are specific to .net?

Verisign's wholesale fee for .net was 10.91 US dollars a year in our dataset, with a rise to 12.00 announced for 1 March 2027. Registrar prices follow that floor. .net has DNSSEC signed at the root and supports internationalised names. There is no residence, nexus or purpose rule for .net.

What does the WHOIS show for a .net domain?

Privacy services are allowed on .net, and PanamaRegistrar includes WHOIS privacy free. .net is a thin registry, like .com: a public lookup on Verisign's WHOIS or RDAP shows the registrar, the dates, the nameservers and the status codes, and Verisign receives no registrant contact data. The registrant record sits with our registrar partner; with Domain protection, the holder of record is our company.

Do I need Domain protection for a .net domain?

No, it is optional: +$29 per year, on top of the .net price. Domain protection registers the domain in the name of DomaineGoat LLC, so the registration record and WHOIS/RDAP show our company, never you, and you can take it back in your own name for free. A transfer lock is on, and any transfer or DNS change must be confirmed from your account. We then hold only your email, and a person reads every complaint before any action on the domain; that review exists only with the option. It does not move the registry or change its courts.

Which dispute policy applies to .net?

.net disputes follow the UDRP, as for every gTLD. The domain is locked within 2 business days of the provider's request, and the panel decision is applied. We could not confirm that the URS applies to .net. Court action in the United States remains open to a trademark owner, in parallel or instead. Our steps for trademark cases: UDRP and URS.

How much does a .net domain cost, and how is it renewed?

At PanamaRegistrar, as of October 2026, .net costs $12.99/year; renewal is $12.99/year, and a transfer $12.99 with one year added, as ICANN rules provide for generic extensions. Term: 1 to 10 years. Payment is in crypto (BTC, USDT, USDC, ETH, SOL, LTC) from a prepaid balance, minimum top-up $25. Every extension: price list.

.net questions

Is a .net domain safer from US courts than a .com?

No. .net and .com have the same registry, VeriSign Global Registry Services in Reston, Virginia. A United States court that can bind Verisign for .com can bind it for .net. The in rem clause of 15 U.S.C. §1125(d)(2) covers both. If distance from US courts matters, look at the registry country in the registry jurisdiction index before you choose an extension.

Who can register a .net domain?

Anyone. .net has no residence, nexus or purpose rule, and terms run from 1 to 10 years. PanamaRegistrar asks for one verified email per domain and no ID. Payment is in crypto from a prepaid balance.

Will the .net wholesale increase change my renewal price?

Our renewal price is the one shown on the price list on the day you renew. Verisign announced a .net wholesale rise to 12.00 US dollars for 1 March 2027, according to Domain Name Wire. If our grid changes, the new price appears on the price list before it applies.

Can PanamaRegistrar stop the .net registry from acting on a court order?

No. The .net registry, VeriSign Global Registry Services, keeps its own copy of the registration and applies the law of its own country. PanamaRegistrar decides only what its own service does: we act on Panamanian court orders, not on unverified complaints. Our registrar partner also keeps its own legal duties. We tell you when we learn of a registry-level action, unless the law or the order forbids it. See the registry jurisdiction index.

How do I pay for a .net domain?

In crypto only: BTC, USDT, USDC, ETH, SOL, LTC. Top up your balance (minimum $25), then register the .net domain from it at $12.99/year. Send the exact amount on the exact network; the top-up is credited after the network confirmations. No ID and no KYC: one verified email per domain, never published.
