Who runs the .art registry, and from which country?
The IANA database lists UK Creative Ideas Limited, 12 Mount Havelock, Douglas, Isle of Man, as manager of .art, and gives the country as the United Kingdom. The Isle of Man is a Crown Dependency with its own legislature and courts. The technical operator is CentralNic, Saddlers House, 44 Gutter Lane, London. WHOIS answers on whois.nic.art and RDAP at rdap.centralnic.com/art. The IANA record dates from 30 April 2024. .art is a new gTLD under an ICANN registry agreement.
Can a court in the Isle of Man take down or seize a .art domain?
An order against the .art registry company would be a matter for the Isle of Man courts, where the company is registered. An order against the database operator would go to the courts of England and Wales, where CentralNic sits. We could not confirm a published procedure for court orders from either company. A US court has no registry-location basis for .art under 15 U.S.C. §1125(d)(2), since neither company is in the United States.
What does PanamaRegistrar do with a complaint about a .art domain?
Nothing happens to a .art domain on a complaint alone. Copyright, defamation, political or competitor complaints need a decision from a Panamanian court; a foreign judgment must first be recognised in Panama by exequatur. Phishing, malware, botnets and fraud that takes money from victims are suspended within 24 hours of a well-documented report, child sexual abuse material immediately, and the URLs are reported to NCMEC. You are told before any action on your domain, unless the law or the court order forbids it; with Domain protection, every complaint is also read by a person before any action on the domain. This rule covers what PanamaRegistrar does, not the registry or our registrar partner. Steps and time limits: takedown procedure and how we handle complaints.
Who uses .art domains, and why?
Artists, galleries and creative studios use .art, according to the dataset. Anyone can register, for 1 to 10 years. Artists' sites receive copyright complaints more often than most, and at PanamaRegistrar a copyright complaint alone does not lead to a takedown: it needs a Panamanian court decision. Galleries that sell work online also fall under the fraud exception if a sale is fake.
Which registry rules are specific to .art?
IANA gives the country of the .art manager as the United Kingdom, but the address is on the Isle of Man, which is not part of the United Kingdom. Both facts are stated here because they point to different courts. The back end in London is clearly in England. .art supports DNSSEC and IDN.
What does the WHOIS show for a .art domain?
.art allows WHOIS privacy, free at PanamaRegistrar. WHOIS at whois.nic.art and CentralNic's RDAP service show the registrar, the dates, the nameservers and the status codes. Your details are not published, so an artist's studio address stays private; with Domain protection, the registry receives our company's details.
Do I need Domain protection for a .art domain?
No, it is optional: +$29 per year, on top of the .art price. Domain protection registers the domain in the name of DomaineGoat LLC, so the registration record and WHOIS/RDAP show our company, never you, and you can take it back in your own name for free. A transfer lock is on, and any transfer or DNS change must be confirmed from your account. We then hold only your email, and a person reads every complaint before any action on the domain; that review exists only with the option. It does not move the registry or change its courts.
Which dispute policy applies to .art?
As a new gTLD, .art follows the UDRP and the URS. Copyright complaints are not covered by either: they are handled under our procedure and need a Panamanian court decision. Trademark claims go through the UDRP provider, and we lock the domain within 2 business days of its request. Our steps for trademark cases: UDRP and URS.
How much does a .art domain cost, and how is it renewed?
At PanamaRegistrar, as of October 2026, .art costs $18.49/year; renewal is $18.49/year, and a transfer $18.49 with one year added, as ICANN rules provide for generic extensions. Term: 1 to 10 years. .art questions
Is .art a UK domain?
Not legally. .art is a generic extension under an ICANN contract. Its registry company is in Douglas, Isle of Man, which IANA files under the United Kingdom, and its back end is CentralNic in London. The Isle of Man has its own courts.
Can a copyright complaint take down my .art site at PanamaRegistrar?
Not on its own. Copyright complaints need a decision from a Panamanian court before we act on the domain. Hosting providers have their own rules for the content they store. See DMCA notices for how we answer them.
Which courts can act on the .art registry?
The Isle of Man courts for the registry company, and the courts of England and Wales for CentralNic in London. We found no published procedure from either for court orders. PanamaRegistrar acts only under Panamanian procedure.
Can PanamaRegistrar stop the .art registry from acting on a court order?
No. The .art registry, UK Creative Ideas Limited, keeps its own copy of the registration and applies the law of its own country. PanamaRegistrar decides only what its own service does: we act on Panamanian court orders, not on unverified complaints. Our registrar partner also keeps its own legal duties. We tell you when we learn of a registry-level action, unless the law or the order forbids it. See the registry jurisdiction index.
How do I pay for a .art domain?
In crypto only: BTC, USDT, USDC, ETH, SOL, LTC. Top up your balance (minimum $25), then register the .art domain from it at $18.49/year. Send the exact amount on the exact network; the top-up is credited after the network confirmations. No ID and no KYC: one verified email per domain, never published.
