Who runs the .fi registry, and from which country?

IANA lists the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency Traficom, PO Box 320, Helsinki, as manager and technical operator of .fi. WHOIS answers on whois.fi and RDAP on rdap.fi. The registry website is domain.fi, and IANA updated the record on 15 September 2025. Unlike most registries in our list, the .fi registry is a government agency. .fi follows Finnish law, with no ICANN contract.

Can a court in Finland take down or seize a .fi domain?

Traficom is a Finnish public authority, and Finnish courts have authority over it. Finland is an EU member state, so judgments from other member states can be recognised there under EU rules. We could not confirm Traficom's published procedure for court orders, so we do not describe one. No US company appears in the IANA record for .fi.

What does PanamaRegistrar do with a complaint about a .fi domain?

Nothing happens to a .fi domain on a complaint alone. Copyright, defamation, political or competitor complaints need a decision from a Panamanian court; a foreign judgment must first be recognised in Panama by exequatur. Phishing, malware, botnets and fraud that takes money from victims are suspended within 24 hours of a well-documented report, child sexual abuse material immediately, and the URLs are reported to NCMEC. You are told before any action on your domain, unless the law or the court order forbids it; with Domain protection, every complaint is also read by a person before any action on the domain. This rule covers what PanamaRegistrar does, not the registry or our registrar partner. Steps and time limits: takedown procedure and how we handle complaints.

Who uses .fi domains, and why?

Finnish market sites use .fi, according to the dataset. Foreign registrants are allowed. A Finnish ID or company number is needed only when the holder's address is in Finland. Terms run from 1 to 5 years. Finnish companies and public services choose .fi first, and foreign sellers use it to reach Finnish customers.

Which registry rules are specific to .fi?

On .fi, the registrant's name stays public even for individuals, according to the dataset. That is why PanamaRegistrar sells .fi with Domain protection only: the public name is our company's. The maximum term is 5 years. .fi supports DNSSEC and IDN, and runs both WHOIS and RDAP services.

What does the WHOIS show for a .fi domain?

The holder name stays visible on .fi, even for individuals, per the dataset. With Domain protection, the visible name is our company's, so your own name is never published by the registry.

Why is .fi sold with Domain protection only?

.fi is one of the 12 extensions sold with Domain protection only. Its registry needs a holder name and a postal address, and we collect one verified email, so the domain is registered in the name of DomaineGoat LLC. The price, $46.99, is $17.99 for the extension plus $29 for Domain protection. You stay the beneficial owner: full control, a free EPP code, and the domain put back in your own name on request, free. A UDRP complaint names the registrant of record, our company; we tell you, and you can answer it.

Which dispute policy applies to .fi?

.fi is not on WIPO's list of country codes with a dispute service. Traficom runs its own procedure, which we have not confirmed; it is published on domain.fi. Our steps for trademark cases: UDRP and URS.

How much does a .fi domain cost, and how is it renewed?

At PanamaRegistrar, as of October 2026, .fi costs $46.99/year; renewal is $46.99/year, and a transfer $46.99. Whether a transfer adds a year depends on the registry of the extension, and the checkout shows it before you pay. Term: 1 to 5 years. Payment is in crypto (BTC, USDT, USDC, ETH, SOL, LTC) from a prepaid balance, minimum top-up $25. Every extension: price list.

.fi questions

Who manages .fi domains?

Traficom, the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency, at PO Box 320 in Helsinki, per IANA. It is a government agency, and Finnish law applies to it. It runs the .fi database itself.

Is the holder name public on .fi?

Yes, even for individuals, according to the dataset. At PanamaRegistrar, .fi is sold with Domain protection only, so the public name is our company's, not yours, and the registry never receives your details.

Do I need a Finnish ID for a .fi domain?

Only if the holder's address is in Finland, per the dataset. With Domain protection, the holder of record is our company, so no Finnish ID number of yours is involved. You stay the beneficial owner with full control.

Can PanamaRegistrar stop the .fi registry from acting on a court order?

No. The .fi registry, Finnish Transport and Communications Agency Traficom, keeps its own copy of the registration and applies the law of its own country. PanamaRegistrar decides only what its own service does: we act on Panamanian court orders, not on unverified complaints. Our registrar partner also keeps its own legal duties. We tell you when we learn of a registry-level action, unless the law or the order forbids it. See the registry jurisdiction index.

How do I pay for a .fi domain?

In crypto only: BTC, USDT, USDC, ETH, SOL, LTC. Top up your balance (minimum $25), then register the .fi domain from it at $46.99/year. Send the exact amount on the exact network; the top-up is credited after the network confirmations. No ID and no KYC: one verified email per domain, never published.
